Letter from the President
Dear ILACHE members and friends:
I was recently elected the President for the Illinois Latino Council on Higher Education (ILACHE)and would like to introduce myself to you, our ILACHE members and friends.
I am excited about the opportunity to serve ILACHE in this new capacity and thank the board for entrusting me with the organization. Many of you know that I am not new to ILACHE. I have been on the board for 17 years. Throughout the years, I have served as the editor of the ILACHE newsletter, member of the scholarship committee and chaired our annual conference since 2004. Most recently, I worked with the board to develop our ILACHE Leadership Institute (ILI), which is currently underway with 9 undergraduate students and 9 higher education professionals in its inaugural class.
With all the higher education challenges in the state of Illinois, it is imperative that ILACHE continues to be the voice of Latinos in higher education. However, we cannot do it alone. We need you to reaffirm your commitment to ILACHE and continue to be engaged and informed about issues that affect the higher education community in the state. For the last few months the ILACHE board has been working on strengthening our infrastructure, increasing board representation from diverse higher education institutions and developing our 2020 Strategic Plan. My colleagues and I are working everyday to support our Latino higher education agenda. We invite you to join us in these efforts and look forward to your participation.
En hora buena,Daniel López, Jr., Ph.D.
ILACHE Board President
